Why More Clients Are Choosing the Design

Why More Clients Are Choosing the Design

by Proforma Construction Inc, January 26, 2017

Working with a client on the design of their building was often unheard of, but now it is the clients that design the building. But why is that?

A team of commercial construction contractors in the bay area were the quarterbacks (so to speak) of the project by directing and controlling all of the elements of construction from the architecture and engineering firms to subcontractor partners. Now, clients are having more of a say in the design of their building right from the very beginning.

Design-assist is a hybrid of the design-build process in which the commercial contractor still brought into the fold during the project’s onset, the client retains control of its professional team and chooses its preferred architecture and engineering firms.

Why is this beneficial? Let’s find out!

  • More collaborative and more enjoyable – Any project is more satisfying when the parties are involved in open communication and are collaborative rather than adversarial. By bringing in their own team early on, partnerships among professionals can lead to and expect a satisfying project.
  • Fewer Surprises on Costs – Budgets are things that clients incessantly worry about. And why shouldn’t they? It is their money that is being spent and they want to make sure that they have enough to pay for the whole project. By giving some creative control to the client, you are able to get a better idea of how much the materials will cost and are better able to avoid any mix-up throughout the construction prices.
  • Satisfaction – The client will get what the client wants which will put their satisfaction levels through the roof. Even if they do not like it, it is ultimately their design with which they chose to go.
