Be wary of these common construction risks.

It’s no secret that working in the construction industry is dangerous and that certain risks are more common than others.  Fortunately, understanding your risks is one of the best ways to prevent them.  According to your Pleasanton contractor, here are some of the most common dangers on a construction site.

  • Moving Objects

Large, movable machinery is a standard presence on construction sites.  When operating and moving this heavy machinery, workers need to be hyper-aware of their surroundings to keep themselves and other workers safe.  When heavy machinery is in use, nearby workers need to don the appropriate safety equipment, visibility jackets, and so on.

  • Heights

When working on taller projects, construction workers use scaffolds.  Because scaffolds are pretty open, they pose major fall risks.  To ensure that construction staff does not fall from great heights, scaffolds should be equipped with guard rails and workers should be strapped into fall protection systems.  Additionally, workers need to be trained, and scaffolding should be regularly inspected by safety experts.

  • Faulty Equipment

Finally, faulty and malfunctioning equipment are also common causes of construction injuries and accidents.  While you can take steps to maintain equipment, wear and tear is unavoidable.  This is why it’s important to conduct frequent equipment safety inspections and train your staff to identify potential signs of malfunctions.  Staying vigilant and being proactive will help you repair or replace faulty equipment before it has a chance to harm your staff.
