How to Improve the Fuel Efficiency of Your Car

by Proforma Construction Inc, August 17, 2016

As gas prices continue to climb, increasing the fuel mileage is the best way to save money.

Short of buying a Tesla? There’s no way around having to spend your hard earned money on gas. As your car ages, it uses more and more gas as its engine wears down and has to use more energy to do things it could easily do when it was a young buck. But does that mean your car will always be a black hole through which your money will constantly flow? Yes. But it doesn’t have to be as bad as it can be if you follow these steps to improve the fuel efficiency of your car.

  1. Check Your Tires: Properly inflated tires can reduce consumption by up to three percent. You also lose about 1 PSI per month, and depending on the weather your tires can fluctuate in pressure. Cold weather makes air vibrate slower and thus your tires (or footballs) will lose pressure. It’s recommended that you check your PSI every month to make sure you’re getting the most out of your gas.
  2. Tune Up the Engine: Your engine needs to be oiled every 3 months or every 3,000 miles to make sure that all of the components don’t overheat as they are rapidly spinning and sliding through each other at high temperatures.
  3. Check Your Engine Air Filter: As your filter clogs up with debris and smoke, it requires more energy to sift through all of those particles. Just like food particles clog your sink, dust and smoke clog your air filter.

Your car gets you to where you want to go, and keeping it maintained keeps it working for you. The same with your business: keep it well maintained, and it will keep you protected.
