Coloring the World With LEDs

Coloring the World With LEDs

LEDs not only last way longer than traditional light bulbs, they also bring true color to our hallways and bridges.

San Antonio artist, Ansen Seale, created an interactive LED lighting installation to an elevated bridge at University Hospital.  This installation connects the hospital to the parking garage with 42 LED backlit panels, adding color to what could have been a monotonous portion of the complex.

Seale collaborated with the hospital’s board, electronic engineers, and glass experts to create the You Activate this Space installation which lights up in response to the movement of people that are walking through the bridge. The panels change colors as people walk through and eventually fade back to their original colors, leaving behind a trailing effect for staff members that are going to and from work. An audio soundtrack of chimes accompany the changing colors serves to calm and relax occupants as they walk across the bridge.

LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes), are ideal at creating these kinds of art exhibitions, and the reason they are used for televisions; they emit light in the red, green, blue spectrum without the need for any filters. They create the essence of the color which makes them look as rich and vibrant as they are. They also use a lot less energy and last much longer than fluorescent light bulbs, meaning that they are much better for the environment.

LEDs are the way of the future, and pretty soon all electronics will be fitted to use this impressive technology. Keeping up with trends can be fun, save you money and draw positive attention to your business.
