How You Can Prepare Your Facility for Winter

How You Can Prepare Your Facility for Winter

by Proforma Construction Inc, December 5, 2016

As the winter arrives, your facility may become a nightmare in which to work. But you can take proper steps to prepare your facility for winter.

While the days of summer and fall are behind us, the early warm weather of winter can often lead managers into a false sense of security when it comes to preparing for winter. However, waiting to construct a winter maintenance plan until the first snow and ice hit is a big mistake. A facility that does not procrastinate in their winter preparations is in a better position than those that wait until the last minute. Here are a few tips on how you can prepare your facility for winter.

Tip One: Mat Preparation

You already have mats in place to absorb any water and dust that your workers drag in, but as snow accumulates outside, you are going to need scraper mats outside of the building along with transition mats placed between them.

Tip Two: Equipment

You need to think about the equipment you will need for the winter in order to make everything easier. Things like drying of carpets and floors, deep cleaning, routine maintenance, and other things. Most of this equipment uses tanks, so make sure to clean and dry after every use. Not doing so can encourage the growth of bacteria.

Tip Three: Chemistry

In order to make your job easier, you should know how frequently you need to clean something. Salt and ice melt should be a part of your chemistry kit, along with a neutralizing cleaner in order to remove the residues of winter.

The winter can present certain challenges, but with the right preparation you can make everyone’s job easier.
