How You Can Move More at Work

by Proforma Construction Inc, September 26, 2016

Sitting all day at work may be shaving years off your life, what can you do about it?

Think back to the last hour or so, have you moved at all? We don’t mean moving around emails from one folder to another, or even swiveling in your office chair, we mean actual movement: standing, walking, stretching, etc. Several recent studies have shown evidence supporting the idea that sitting is detrimental to your health and boosts health risks like heart disease, cancer, Type 2 diabetes, and premature death. Here are ways to move around more at work.

  1. Unglue yourself from your chair.

Moving more doesn’t mean running a 5K during your lunch break. By simply standing more throughout the day for a period of time is good for your body and metabolism. Once you stand, those postural muscles fire up and suck the sugar and fat from the bloodstream to keep you going.

  1. Take a Walking Break

Choose the stairs over the elevator and park a little farther than you usually do to get your leg muscles going. In the afternoon, take a small walk around your building and encourage others to go with you. Before you know it, you’ll be leading the whole team on your daily walks.

  1. Change Your Mindset

We’re not asking you to bike 20 miles to work or do cross-fit in between meetings: simply start by doing small stretches, walking, and standing.

Your office may not have enough space to allow your employees to get the necessary movement to prolong their lives and become healthy. When looking for a Pleasanton contractor who can help you make the right decision, we encourage you to contact Proforma Construction. We are equipped to meet all of your commercial construction needs.
