The Important of Hydration During the Winter Months

Why you need to stay hydrated this season.

While everyone knows how important it is to stay hydrated during the hot summer months, many do not realize that hydration is just as important during winter.  While you do tend to sweat less during winter, it’s still easy to become dehydrated.  Here are some of the reasons why it’s so important that you stay hydrated this season.

It Boosts Your Immune System

While winter temperatures are obviously lower, the air is also drier.  Exposure to this cold, dry air can actually cause you to become dehydrated.  When your hydration levels drop, you begin to feel more run-down and sluggish.  Additionally, becoming dehydrated also compromises your immune system, making you more likely to get sick.  By increasing your water intake, you can ensure that your body is functioning properly and has the strength to fend off germs and viruses.

It Helps You Maintain Your Weight

During the winter months, people’s activity levels drop and their diets become filled with heavier, richer foods.  While this will obviously result in weight gain, this issue can actually be exacerbated by dehydration.  When properly hydrated, your body can break down fat and convert it into energy much more efficiently.  This, in turn, keeps weight gain at a minimum.  However, denying your body the water it needs will lead to bloating and will make your cells more prone to storing fat.

It Helps You Stay Warm

Your body uses water to maintain a stable temperature no matter what the outside conditions are like.  If you are dehydrated, then your body will have a much harder time maintaining your core temperature.  In fact, one of the biggest reasons why people suffer hypothermia is because they become dehydrated while out in cold temperatures.

These are some of the reasons why you need to stay hydrated this season.  Looking for assistance with your building project this winter?  Then turn to the experts at Proforma Construction.  Serving Pleasanton and the surrounding California area, our highly-trained team is ready to make your commercial construction dreams a reality.  Contact us to get started today.
