How to Adjust Your Sleep Schedule for Daylight Savings’ End!

How to Adjust Your Sleep Schedule for Daylight Savings’ End!

by Proforma Construction Inc, November 3, 2016

As we fall backward into the end of Daylight Savings Time, your sleep schedule may be interrupted.

Daylight Savings sayings go thusly: “spring forward; fall backward.” Daylight Savings time is nothing short of unnecessary. It makes us lose on quality sleep, and contrary to popular belief, it does not help farmers and actually increases energy usage across the nation. So your guess as to why it’s still used is as good as ours. Regardless, our sleep schedules suffer because of it. On Sunday, November 6, 2016, at 2:00 am, our clocks will fall back one hour and give us the opportunity to sleep in an extra hour. As good as that may sound for us, there are some who are tied to their sleep schedules. Here are a few tips on how you should prepare yourself for a changing clock this November.

  1. Power Off to Doze Off

Studies have shown that the blue light emitted by LED screen can slow down or disturb the production of melatonin, the hormone that tells our bodies when it’s time for bed. Evolutionarily, it makes sense: the blue light is reminiscent of dawn’s first light, and it tricks our brains into thinking it’s time to get up. Putting away your devices an hour before bedtime is the best way to get your body ready for bed! Additionally, the iPhone’s screen can be adjusted to emit reddish light past sunset for this very reason.

  1. Consistency is Key

When it comes to sleep and scheduling, consistency may be of better use to you than trying to get acclimated 15 minutes at a time. Waking up and going to bed at the same time every day is the best way for your body to make the most of sleep.
