Walking Tour of the HIVE, Oakland
Developed by Signature Development Group and built by Proforma construction, the HIVE encompasses 2 phases as a repurpose project in Downtown Oakland including a seismic retrofit/historical renovation of over 70,000 SF that included environmental concerns on site as well.
Phase 1 was the conversion of 3 adjacent existing 5,000 SF buildings that were retrofitted with new seismic supports which raised roof heights and required new roofs. Also added was square feet via mezzanines and 2nd floors, as well as refurbished basements.
Phase 2 was similar to phase 1 as 3 adjacent buildings were repurposed, incorporating historical renovation and environmental concerns. the square footage was doubled with a s 2nd story element, plus added a new ground up 2 story building which is now SDG’s headquarters for a total conversion of 15,000 SF to 42,000 SF.
